Sri Lanka received the First Batch of Medical Supplies Donated by Chinese Government

On 1st April, 2020, Hu wei, Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka, called on Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa and handed over a certificate of the 1st batch Chinese governmental donation of 50,000 medical masks, 1008 nucleic acid diagnostic kits (test kits). A brief and solemn handover ceremony was later hold at the Health Ministry attended by Mr. Hu Wei and Hon. Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine of Sri Lanka.

Hu briefed the recent situation of pandemic prevention & control in China and spoke highly of the efforts made by the Sri Lankan government to fight COVID-19. Hu appraised that Sri Lankan government has taken very decisive and effective measures which are fully recognized by the international community including WHO. Considering the current crucial stage in Sri Lanka, China will continue sharing experience and providing Sri Lanka all kinds of support in fighting COVID-19 within our capacity through different channels.

Both PM & the Minister praised Chinese government for successfully taking the pandemic in China under control and showing the great advantage of its unique system. The Sri Lankan side highly appreciated all kinds of support extended by Chinese government and its societies, and expected to receive more assistance in terms of medical supplies and experience sharing.

In recent days, besides the Central government, Chinese local governments, cities, enterprises and Overseas Chinese in Sri Lanka all voluntarily donated forms of medical supplies to Sri Lanka, which had got many thumbs up from the government and people of this island country.
