|Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin Goes for China-Sri Lanka Diplomatic Consultations in Sri Lanka|
From April 24 to 25, 2014, Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin held the ninth round of China-Sri Lanka diplomatic consultations with Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs Kshenuka D. Senewiratne of Sri Lanka at the invitation. He met respectively with President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka, Minister of External Affairs Gamini Lakshman Peiris, and President’s Special Envoy on Human Rights and Minister of Plantation Industries Mahinda Samarasinghe.
Vice Minister Liu said that China and Sri Lanka are traditionally friendly neighbors who have respected each other, helped each other and supported each other, having become reliable good friends, trustful good partners and good brothers sharing weal and woe. Sri Lanka is China’s important cooperative partner in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region. China supports Sri Lanka to actively participate in the construction of the Silk Road On the Sea of the 21st Century and is willing to work together with Sri Lanka in promoting bilateral practical cooperation and friendly exchanges in various fields, to strengthen coordination and cooperation in human rights and other international and regional affairs and to keep enriching the substance of the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
The Sri Lankan side expressed that Sri Lanka regards China as an all-weather partner and a true friend. They expressed the heartfelt thanks for the long-term and sincere help provided by the Chinese side in Sri Lanka’s economic and social development. Sri Lanka highly appreciates China’s firm support for Sri Lanka on the issue of human rights. The Sri Lankan government attaches great importance to developing its relationship with China, and is willing to actively participate in the construction of the Silk Road On the Sea of the 21st Century, and hopes to intensify bilateral high-level contacts, to expand economic and trade and personnel exchanges, to strengthen cooperation in multilateral fields, and to push forward bilateral strategic cooperative partnership for constant development.
